Chamber receives federal shop local funding

Sylvan Lake, Alberta July 14, 2021– The Sylvan Lake Chamber will receive $30,240 of federal shop local funding—funding that will expand the chamber’s ongoing efforts to encourage patronage of community businesses.

"We're excited about the success of our application and the opportunity it gives us to help money stay local," says David Phillips, President. “COVID-19 threw a wrench in our 2021 plans requiring us to cancel or postpone several projects. We are incredibly thankful to the federal government for this grant because we can now move forward and better yet, expand on our original plans."

The funding will support the production of a Why Shop Local video, a Sylvan Lake Dining Guide, the expansion and marketing of the Sylvan Lake Town App so more businesses can promote special deals and offers, and the launch of ChamberMarket, a shopping platform that allows businesses to sell products and services online.

“Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, community chambers have truly been a lifeline for businesses,” says Ken Kobly, Alberta Chambers of Commerce President and CEO. “As we transition to reopening and recovery, we still have a long road ahead to rebuild our economy. This federal funding will help chambers do what we do best: support local job creators.”

A third round of funding applications is currently being processed.
