Entrepreneurs are the life blood of Alberta! That’s why Junior Achievement (JA) been educating young people about financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship for almost 100 years! Junior Achievement is now expanding their flagship course, called Company Program, into Sylvan Lake. This 5-month program teaches grade 10-12 students how to start, organize and operate a REAL business. Volunteers from the local business community work with students to launch and run a small enterprise.
We hope you can hear our excitement in sharing this news with you. Their urgency is real - October is the formal start time for the program. Teams in Red Deer run on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights; the Sylvan Lake team will run on Wednesday nights, location TBD.
The Junior Achievement Organization is in great need of mentors, team sponsors, and students!
Mentors – as a Mentor on a team you will facilitate valuable learning lessons as the students get to know one another, brainstorm a business idea, and get set writing their business plans. After the students have elected their Executive body in Week 6, Mentors take a back-seat support role and allow the students to run their own meetings. We ask that all Mentors are able to commit to 60% - or 12 – of the team`s weekly meetings between October and February. >LEARN MORE
Sponsorship – the cost of running one Company Program team in 2018/19 is $5000, which supports the ongoing events and programming that the students work through. There are 5 teams planned for Central Alberta – four in Red Deer and one in Sylvan Lake. >LEARN MORE
Students – We know students are looking for opportunities to learn new skills that will help them get ahead once they graduate. Help us spread the word about this program to your high school aged students and their friends. Talk to them about the benefits of entrepreneurship and financial literacy. Company Program is completely free of charge for students to participate, and they can earn 3* of Work Experience for their involvement! >LEARN MORE
